Publishing

Every book is an individual mission delegated to us in covenant with God and with the author. We strive to honor those relationships by listening carefully and communicating clearly.

We begin with one or more detailed conversations with the writer.

  • What is the author’s heart and vision?

  • In light of our experience with how readers approach books, will their book accomplish that vision?

  • How can our experience help the author connect with the reader most clearly?

  • When we accept a manuscript, we engage our team of intercessors to specifically seek God’s input, guidance, and protection throughout the steps of production.

A key focus is the overall design and feel of the finished product.

  • Every book is approached individually so the look of the book reflects what the author wants to convey.

  • We often include a symbolic image on the written pages that mirrors the author’s goal.

  • We craft a cover that reflects the content and invites a reader to explore what is within the book’s pages. We want to capture a reader’s attention so they will be drawn to pick up the book and investigate what it offers.

Finally, we apply for the copyright and assign the rights to the author.

  • We also order an ISBN number and bar code.

  • If an author would like his/her book to connect with a personal website, we will link a QR code.

 Editing

We approach editing with great care. Just as we believe that every book assigned to us is a sacred responsibility, we also believe that every author called to write a book has been specifically chosen for a reason. The author’s experiences and voice are an integral part of the written testimony that is conveyed in the text, so we guard the voice of the author. The final product must read like the writer God chose as His vessel.

Editing takes place at various stages of our process, becoming more detailed as we progress.

We begin with an overview of the content.

  • Do the presentation style and order of the content accomplish the objectives of the author?

  • Does the content flow so the reader can easily understand?

Next, we evaluate the details.

  • Is the content clear and consistent?

  • Are the grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure accurate?

After the book has been crafted into its final form, we examine it carefully.

  • Are there any hidden errors?

  • Is every Scripture verse quoted accurately?

Finally, the author will evaluate our work to be certain they are entirely pleased before we go to print.

Printing

Our initial contract with the author is for the process of preparing the book to be printed.

Once that stage is complete, we coordinate with a printer and binder to create physical books. The author can order as many copies as he or she would like at any time. Some authors order copies to give as gifts. Other authors sell copies through social media or speaking engagements.

High Gate Press orders copies for our use to sell through our website and other contacts. The author will earn royalties on every copy that is sold.

High Gate pays for the printing. If the author would like copies for personal use, we will sell them to him/her at wholesale. Whenever the author needs additional copies, we will make arrangements to print more.

An eBook option is available as well for an additional charge. We will produce the book in eBook format and submit it to a digital distributor to be sold in multiple digital storefronts.
